What is the best way to cook Tandoori Fish at home - Fry in a Pan, Fry in an Air Fryer or Oven Bake?

Traditionally tandoori fish is cooked in a tandoor, but who has a tandoor at home :( So the question is, what is the best way to cook tandoori fish at home? In this video I compared 3 different methods we can use to cook tandoori fish in our kitchens at home! Pan Fried, Air fried and Baked in a conventional oven. I ranked them for taste and texture! I hope you find this video helpful :) Please do let me know! Also, if you would like me to post more videos comparing different recipes/methods etc I would love to do it for you! Let me know!

Yield: 6 servings

Recipe for the marinade:

1/2 tsp coriander powder

1/4 tsp cumin powder

1 tsp garam masala

1/2 tsp black pepper powder

2 tsp Kashmiri red chilli powder

1/2 tsp normal red chilli powder

1 tbsp powdered dried fenugreek leaves (kasuri methi)

1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder

1/4 tsp chaat masala

3 tsp. fresh ginger garlic paste

1/2 cup thick yogurt (plain unsweetened)

2 tbsp. Mustard oil

Salt (to taste)

Fresh lime juice

  • I am using 6 pieces of Salmon

  • Sprinkle them with some salt and fresh lime juice

  • Coat with the marinade

  • Smoke with a burning charcoal (by drizzling some ghee) for 20-30 min

Pan Frying

  • Add some oil and butter on a pan set on medium/high heat

  • Fry the fish for 3-4 min on both sides and baste with butter from time to time

  • Keep it covered for 5 min before eating so it stays moist

Air frying

  • Coat the air fryer basket with tin foil

  • grease the tin foil with some oil

  • Air fry for 9-11 min or till done at 350 degrees F or 180 degrees C

Oven Baked

  • Preheat oven at 350 degrees F or 180 degrees C

  • Coat a baking pan with tin foil

  • grease the tin foil with some oil

  • Bake for 9-11 min or till done

The pan fried fish was the most tasty. The reason is probably due to the toasting of spices in the marinade. The pan fried fish was moist as well. The Air fried fish had a nice smoky flavor but was a little dry. The baked fish was the most moist in texture and tasty great too!

Hope this recipe was helpful for you!
