One of the most addictive street foods in Kolkata is fish fry! If you have tasted it before you will surely agree! Follow my recipe and recreate that awesomeness in your kitchen 😊
Fish...5 filets of cod (~4 inch long and ~1 cm thick)
You can use any white flaky fish
Onion...1 small (chopped)
Ginger...2 inch piece (chopped)
Green chillies...4-5 (chopped)
Coriander leaves...1 cup
Mint leaves...1 cup
Lime...1/2 or 1 small
Powdered black pepper...1.5 tsp.
Bread crumbs...2 cups
All purpose flour...1 cup
Garam masala powder...1/2 tsp.
Amchur (Dry mango powder)...1 tsp.
Chaat masala...1 tsp.
This preparation is most commonly done with Bhetki fish but you can use any white flaky fish like catfish, tilapia, cod etc
I used 5 filets of cod (~4 cm long and ~1cm thick)
Start by pressing lime juice in the filets followed by sprinkling salt and pepper
Grind the following to a fine paste: Onions, ginger, garlic, green chillies, coriander leaves and mint leaves
Apply the paste on the filets, cover it and let it marinate in the refrigerator for atleast 30 min
Breading the fish
To 1 cup of all purpose flour add garam masala, 1/2 tsp of salt and 1/2 tsp. of powdered black pepper. Mix evenly
In another flat bowl, beat 2-3 eggs with 1/2 tsp. of salt and keep it aside
Coat the filets with the all purpose flour
Double dip the filets in the egg wash and bread crumbs (refer to my video to see how to achieve this in a mess-free manner)
Refrigerate the filets for 10 min
Deep fry the filets in oil until golden brown and crisp
Finish by sprinkling chaat masala and Amchur powder
This is most commonly eaten with mustard sauce or you can use ketchup if you prefer.
